August came with another round of friends and family, which we happily welcomed. August 1st we went to the airport to pick up our buddy Van Zovad, who we flew in from San Fransico. (His famous quote in our house is "I'm not weird, I'm from San Fransico".) From the moment we picked him up we were laughing and enjoying his company. He and Sam got right back at the endless hours of Legos.
Van brought with him his newly acquired Pokemon cards and taught Sam not only how to play it but how to "collect them all". By day 3 we were at Wal-Mart buying $130 worth of new Legos and Pokemon cards. (Sam decided he was in the mood to spend and got out his very large wad of collected cash and happily counted it out to the cashier. I happily let him shop to his heart's content as I didn't pay a dime towards any of it.)
Van stayed with us for 10 days and I think the boys only got into it once or twice. Not bad for a week and a half. It was actually pretty nice as we fell into a sweet rythm of breakfast, play outside for a couple of hours, lunch, play inside, watch a show, play outside, dinner, play outside, bed. Everyday. By day 2 all electronics were banned except a hour long show in the heat of the day. I loved how they actually went outside and played and used their imaginations once again!
In the midst of the sunny days of August we took regular breaks out on the boat, in the middle of the lake, just relaxing and doing nothing. Such a blessing and filler of our buckets. Sometimes doing nothing is the best thing to do indeed.
Perrin finally got the idea behind wakeboarding and has been getting up like a champ. She even stays up for more than a couple of minutes, though she's quick to let go of the rope and plug her nose if even the smallest of waves come her way.
Tuesday the 12th brought the Medford Strickler's to Liberty Lake. Sarah, Obie, Bryn, Bailey and Brooklyn came ready to play - in the house, on the water - wherever Perrin was that where the girls wanted to be.
I never did get my $20.
I think Obie likes to get the girls out of their comfort zone as he took Brooklyn at 15 months on the tube and then jumped off with her into the lake. She did great and didn't even cry....she didn't smile, but at least she wasn't crying.
And then Uncle Obie likes to make the ride "a little more interesting". In the above picture he's taunting Bryn and she's trying to get away from him.
The kids loved the "Spiderman" tube, which goes super fast around corners. You could tell the fun factor by the look on their faces and by Sam plugging his ears to the screaming of the girls. Poor Sam. It's only going to get worse.
The Strickler's headed off after two nights to explore their friends home up near Sandpoint, Idaho. They left their bikes as we're hoping they come back through for another couple of nights of fun.
