Grasping at the last signs of summer, we loaded up the boat, bikes and food and headed out to Northern Idaho to beautiful Priest Lake. We had been invited to join some of Balin's co-workers and their families at the Elkins resort, about an hour and a half from Liberty Lake, for a long weekend of boating, games, good food and conversation. We met some other Liberty Lakers while we were there and were surprised how many people leave the lake to go to the lake. When I asked a neighbor about it she said they come to Liberty Lake every year for vacation so they aren't someone else's vacation. Well said. By the end of August the Strickler family was in need of a little vacation ourselves and Elkins Resort provided the perfect escape.
One of the great things about the weekend was there was no cell phone service. So we headed to the beach and played games, swam, had bonfires and generally had a whole heck of a lot of fun.
It rained the first morning we were there but we didn't mind. Every cabin came equipped with a gorgeous rock fireplace and wood so we built a roaring fire, snuggled in and played games. Perrin headed over to the Davidow's, where she had Mary and Sylvia to hang out with. Everyone was having a great time even in the rain.

Gen and I stole a morning and put some miles on our bikes. It was gorgeous on the back roads but it seriously felt like it was uphill both ways.
Saturday morning we paid Sam and Perrin to hang out with Gigi (3) and Wyatt (5) so that we adults could have a leisurely breakfast. All the kids did great and we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves for almost two hours. It was heavenly.

The much appreciated "Bob Stroller". When the kids aren't in it, it transforms to the perfect carry-all.
A couple days after our time at the Lake, we had some friends come up from Prescott to enjoy a bit of the lake life. Nathan, Ursula and their three kids enjoyed swimming, tubing, going to Green Bluff to pick fruit. We enjoyed seeing our friends and were honored they made the long trek up to see us.

Sam is not the best field worker. He would rather pick the fruit and play war then bring it home. Perrin on the other hand loves to pick fruit. She is reaping the benefits of having picked a bunch of blueberries and peaches as she enjoys her smoothies every morning.
As summer finished with Labor Day weekend, all of us breathed a quiet sigh. It was a good summer filled with lots of friends and activities, but we were ready for the shorter, cooler days of fall.
