Just before leaving Arizona, we made a last ditch effort to see all the wonders of our hospitable state. Watering holes, parks, resorts in the sun and especially the big hole in the ground; the Grand Canyon.
On our way out of Costa Rica, Balin and I are making a concerted effort to see all the sights and sounds of this beautiful country. Puerto Viejo - check. Nosara & Samara - check. We said goodbye to our friends from Young Life after a couple of nights hosting them. Randall, Meli and Isa were delightful to get to know and bless by taking them on adventures and introducing them to our good friend Kimberly. Kimberley is the Director of a non profit here in OSA that educates and trains others to educate about Sexual Abuse. We were able to connect the training director of Central America Young Life as well as the Country’s Young Life director so that they can start the healing process of dealing with sexual abuse.

Leaving our house around 8am we took the most direct route to Nosara, where we had rented a room at an eco village. It took us 7 hours and just a half a tank of gas. The worst part of driving here is your foot gets so tired. Due to the stop and go nature of traffic, you don’t use cruise control here and so it’s very tiring on your feet. After 4 hours, I asked, “Does your foot need a break?” He pulled over with a smile and said, “Yes, my eyes too.” Once we were within an hour of Nosara, the roads got significantly worse. Like 10 miles an hour - due to the massive craters all over the road. But we arrived, hopped in the pool to cool off.

Our hotel was in walking distance to the beach and we quickly found out that everything is within walking distance from the beach. The roads are horrible, but the beach was a nice pathway to take from hotel to restaurant. The town itself didn’t have a Tico house to be seen - all gates and cute coffee shops and restaurants. Clearly this was not a locals town but a town meant for those with means. Beautiful to be sure, but not very authentic.

The next day we met up with one of Balin’s co-workers from Crux and Quanta. It was so good to see Meaghan and Scott. They had left Spokane a few years ago, heading to White Fish, MT and decided that having a sunshine plan in Costa Rica would be a good investment in Meaghan’s soul. We spent a couple of hours hanging out at the restaurant finishing our time seeing 2 of their 3 kids Oakley and Skyla at the beach. They invited us to their house the following day for breakfast and we gladly took them up on it before we started the journey home. Their home was perched high above a gorgeous horseshoe bay. It was really fun to catch up for another couple of hours before we left for Uvita. Thankfully traffic was light and we made it home in 5 hours. Timing apparently is everything.

Upon arriving home we enjoyed a couple of days before we drove to Quepos to pick up our friends Lisa and Matt Dykstra. They’re with us currently for a couple of days to hang out, have great conversation and good food. Thankful they asked to come down. What’s really fun is when we take them back to the airport in Quepos, we’ll be picking up Perrin and her friend Mabry for their week in paradise. We’ll all be heading back to San Jose on the 14th to finish our time in Costa Rica. I’m looking forward to it all.
