Heading out on adventure

It seems like the title of this post could be the title of our life.  As I look back through the various posts throughout the years, adventure is definitely a defining theme.  So here we are in the beginning throws of another one.

A couple of weeks ago Balin and I were mountain biking in the woods behind our house when one of us said, “wouldn’t it be awesome to be able to mountain bike or road bike everyday?”  As we put the miles on, the dream expanded and next thing you know we researched and purchased a brand new trailer (I can count on one hand the things we purchased new so this was exciting) and were engrossed in locating epic road rides and flowy single track.  And so the prodigious journey commences.

First stop: Montana.  We are part of a cohort called “True Face” led by Bill Thrall and Wayne and Terina Williams.  We have met once a quarter this past year to discuss and contemplate what it means to take off the mask of religion and have your True Face revealed.  How would our lives change if we knew we were loved and cherished by God instead of having to win approval through our actions?  Basically, living out of grace instead of legalism.  It’s something Balin and I have been working on for a couple of years now and this intensive has been helpful in solidifying the concepts.

The ranch itself is called Petty Creek Ranch and it’s owned by our neighbors in Liberty Lake, The Williams Family.  Their heart is for people to get away, see God and enjoy others and they’ve created a pretty spectacular space for people to do that.  I am always in awe of other’s people generosity and the Williams don’t disappoint.

From a first night perspective, we’ve got a few things to figure out.  One is the dog.  She is so big.  And the trailer is small so it should be interesting to see where that goes.  Sleeping was great for me as well as having a quiet place in the morning to meditate and drink coffee, two very important activities.

Downside: it rained all night and continues to rain.  Ugh.  My first thought upon waking was “Piper and rain don’t mix”.  Then it became very clear at 6 am that this trailer and the three of us were not going to last if we are camping in the rain.

We’re going to be chasing sunshine.  How long?  Not sure.  Where to?  I’ll let you know.

Flowers from home always make a house a home

I might be wishing for a slightly smaller dog

Balin in the quiet morning hours.  We’re setting the alarm for 6am and getting our day moving.  It’s all about a good bed, coffee, quiet time, exercise.  Routines that make a life.

Coffee.  All good days start with coffee.
